It’s my BIRTHDAAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!! #Chapter28
On this day 7/30/1992 at 10:07am a Leo was born! I woke up this morning feeling extremely blessed, thankful and grateful to see another day (as always), but this day being my 28th birthday!!! With the year we’ve been having, it has been hard on us all from losing family, loved ones, friends, jobs, you name it; we have all been affected one way or another. Although 2020 has been one hell of a year, I still find many blessings and reasons to be thankful because I am still here, alive and well by the grace of God alone.
Now as we all know birthdays have been looking a lot different this year. Many have been doing birthday drive-bys, outdoor celebrations, and virtual zoom/live parties, but as for me, I just wanted to remain chill and low-key basking in just being present on my day. Though my friend Vanessa who I nickname my Sweetpea would say, “You always say the same thing every year, then last minute you want to do something.” lol and that has been true, but this year I meant it. I can be extremely extravagant or super simple; there’s really no in between for me. On my birthday all I truly wanted was to be surrounded by family, loved ones, and/or friends and have cake enjoying one another. Oh and I can’t forget a mini photoshoot on my balcony which came out waaaay better than I envisioned.
As I previously mentioned, this year’s birthday was supposed to be super chill, but I did plan out a few small details just to make it special and memorable. So earlier in the summer I did a small diy project on my balcony so I could make more use of it during the summer months. Fast forward to the days leading up to my birthday, I decided to plan a small photoshoot with balloons, cake, pops of color and nature as my surrounding elements (really just a tall tree that sits in front of my balcony lol). It really all came together nicely without having to spend much money compared to what I probably would if we weren’t dealing with COVID.
So for my birthday photoshoot, I literally got about one dozen yellow balloons some clear as well with confetti as a part of my many pops of color. Along with that, I wore a two maybe three year old dress that I never wore which was intended for a tropical vacation as my bday dress, and paired it with a hot pink turban that I wore on my head with some vibrant rainbow tassel fan earrings as additional pops of color —matching my dress perfectly. The earrings were purchased and worn last year (from ALDO) for Essence Fest in NOLA (one of my favorite cities in the US). Lastly, my geode cake which was the star of my shoot, I had custom made in three days by one of my favorite bakers Bev (owner of Bev’s Kake Kafe in Union, NJ). The cake matched my outfit perfectly and wasn’t planned at all. Everything just worked and flowed perfectly on my day and the pictures below are the results. All the photos were captured on an iPhone 11 by my sister who’s birthday is a few days after mine (there are a lot of Leo’s/ summer babies in my family).
Special thank you to all who wished me a happy birthday and sent gifts. It was all truly appreciated and made my day perfect. Muaaaaah!
